Study: Corona pandemic has contributed to social isolation of young people and school students

A study conducted by Harvard University of America revealed that the Corona virus pandemic has caused a higher feeling of loneliness and social isolation among adolescents and young adults, compared to the elderly, according to what was reported on the Medical Express website.

The study found that 36% of the study participants suffered from isolation and loneliness, as a result of the restrictions imposed by the Corona pandemic, as about 61% of the study participants, between the ages of 18 and 25, had high levels of isolation and anxiety.

For his part, Richard Weissboard, psychologist and author of the study, said that the Corona pandemic has caused higher rates of loneliness among young people and young people compared to adults.

The study data used statistics issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that 63% of young people suffered from anxiety and depression as a result of the conditions imposed by the global epidemic.

The study indicated that adolescents and young adults were more likely to suffer from loneliness in particular, because the conditions of closure resulted in their inability to go out far from home with their friends, in addition to the closure of schools that contributed to the increase in anxiety and tension rates among teenagers and school students.

The study addressed the importance of treating the problems that cause loneliness and social isolation by reducing the stigma associated with social isolation patients who refuse to interact with others, by launching national, governmental and local campaigns stressing the importance of maintaining social ties.
